Rainer Kotschy

I am an Assistant Professor of Economics (tenure-track) at the University of Porto. Before my current appointment, I worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the National Bureau of Economic Research and the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, and as an Assistant Professor of Economics (non-tenure-track) at the University of Munich.

I am an applied economist researching the economics of aging. My work spans labor, health, and behavioral economics, as well as economic development at both the micro and macro levels. In recent and ongoing work, I show that the chronological and functional definitions of age can produce qualitatively and quantitatively distinct predictions for economic behavior and outcomes.
